In 2026 any historic footpaths/rights of way or ancient lanes that are not on the County Council’s Definitive Maps will be lost forever, that is just over 8 years away!
Everyone is encouraged to seek out these routes, they may be used everyday or hidden in the past, but after 2026 they will be gone forever!
Please check any old maps (National Library of Scotland have many old OS maps) in your area against the Definitive Map (Oxfordshire County Council will have paper copies or they can be viewed online).
It is the publics responsibility to check these routes and apply to the OCC to have them added to the Definitive Map by way of a Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO).
Open Spaces Society are running two FREE training days to help people get started, anyone can do it, local historians, walkers, cyclist enthusiasts.
These training days are proving very popular so it would be advisable to book early.
